The Mermaid Mission

Oceans are the lifeblood of planet Earth and humankind. The health of the ocean is essential to human survival. Historically, we thought that we could never take too much out of, or put too much waste into, the oceans. Now we know better. It is estimated that between 70 and 80 percent of the oxygen in the atmosphere is produced by marine plants." It is our job to teach our children to RESPECT and PROTECT our most valuable resource. We believe that when children are introduced to the magic and the wonders of the oceans at an early age they will organically become much more environmentally aware. They then will practice lifelong attitudes of ocean conservation, preservation and protection.

Like Jacques Cousteau said, “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.”

Last Night I Swam with a Mermaid will be a catalyst to spread this message, using a mythical creature to ignite creativity and inspire families to get involved in the movement and play a pivotal role in creating cultural momentum.  As parents it is our job to engage our children in a lasting and meaningful way.  Ursula K. LeGuin said, as great scientists have said and as all children know, it is above all by the imagination that we achieve perception, and compassion, and hope.

    We must lead by example.

I can't tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it, myself. ~Joyce Maynard
